After the storm

The storm has passed, 

The sea is at peace,

The sand is still wet,

The trees are recovering;

There’s tension in the air,

A stillness, a calmness,

There’s the sense of loss,

With the gladness that it passed;

He looks on in wonder,

At the sudden fury of nature

That arose and quelled

Before his very eyes;

He sees that the sand

Is now impressionable, ready to accept,

The huge palms and the boundless sea

Know of a might greater than their own;

 

There is a new realisation now,

He has gained new insight

Of what could have been,

And what is now;

He gazes at the sky,

Painted in exquisite hues,

Everything seems more beautiful somehow,

Than some hours ago;

It is the storm,

The storm which has made all the difference,

And he thanks the Lord above

for storms.
