You

You
Are one
Among the few
Who can hear
The song in me;

You
Love to hear
The song in me;

You
Want to always keep alive
The song in me;

That is precisely why
I will
Always, for you,
Sing sweet
The song in me.

PS: Inspired by a couple of lines in The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini), with which IΒ totally disagree Β – “Every woman needed a husband. Even if he did silence the song in her.”

  1. Beautiful poem. But the lines from The Kite Runner..I would quite disagree. I am not sure of the context. But just from these two lines, it doesn’t sound quite nice.

  2. hey..so the old priya is back,..liked this a lot. πŸ™‚

  3. Oh Sathej ! You should read The Kite Runner. It is a brilliant book ! Will bring tears into your eyes for sure !

    this one was brilliant. Simple but brilliant!
    (i would kinda agree with sathej, I would not like to link this lovely poem with that sentence, but I guess that is for me to feel wonly!)

  6. I shall read this … For you a thousand times over πŸ™‚

    @sathej

    thanks sathej. as for the lines, they will make more sense when you read the book. it is part of a scene set in old times. considering only the two lines, i agree they don’t sound very good in today’s times! πŸ™‚

    @rambler

    he he. thanks! i hope she is back for good too! πŸ™‚

    @niths

    i am midway through the book. guess the truly emotional part is yet to begin….

  8. priyaiyer

    @swat

    yep, mush again! πŸ˜› glad you liked it! πŸ™‚

    @rusty

    thanks a lot! πŸ™‚ only those two lines taken together, i agree they do sound disgusting. but it makes sense in the book, when taken as a part of a whole.

    while reading through, after the famous ‘for you a thousand times over’, these were the two lines that struck me hard, and stayed with me for some time. though the context is a bit controversial, i loved the way it has been written, especially the ‘song in her’ part. πŸ™‚

    @vinod

    yep, do read it. and do let me know how you liked it! πŸ™‚

    ‘for you a thousand times over’ – that’s a sooper line, innit?

  9. @Nithya,
    Yes, shall read it sometime πŸ™‚
    @priyaiyer,
    Hmm..yes, might make sense in the context. But your poem was more acceptable to me than the lines πŸ™‚

  12. it looks so seemingly simple .. yet the idea is strong …
    and those 2 lines made you write this… awesome.. in the larger view, those 2 lines almost escapes one’s notice..

    happy reading.. πŸ™‚

  13. Very Sweet Poem.

    Amazing words… Do you know that there is a song inside a man too? when the tunes blend well between the two, life feels much better…

    Hope you are having a good day.. Cheers…

    @aparna

    there were a few lines in the book that made me stand up and take notice. as i told rusty, these were some of those lines.

    “it looks so seemingly simple .. yet the idea is strong …” – shall we say ‘building weak, aana basement strong’? πŸ˜›

    thanks for the ‘happy reading’ part! and to you too! πŸ™‚

    @vc and sn

    danke! πŸ™‚

    @arv

    thanks! yep, i know there’s a song inside a man too. in fact, there is one inside everyone. when someone understands the melody of your song, the songs become sweeter. πŸ™‚

  16. Bravo! πŸ™‚ As always, if I may add.

  17. priyaiyer

    @priya

    thanks, priya! πŸ™‚

  18. You
    Are one among the few
    That my heart opens
    Up in song to!

    The song in you
    Makes me sing too!

    Silence my voice
    But silence not my inner song.

    My song sings
    Not for your ear
    But for mine!

    I m reading Kite runner… maybe after reading it… i will also disagree πŸ™‚

  28. priyaiyer

    @veens

    πŸ™‚ welcome back, and thanks!

    great, great that you are reading kite runner. pls do put up your views on the book on your blog.

    as for my disagreement, i, in general disagree with that statement. it has got nothing to do with the book. πŸ™‚ in fact, it makes perfect sense in the book when read in its context…
