As we stand there drenched in the rain

Eating corn on the cob,

Watching the world go by,

As we watch with tender love

At the infant bouncing in his mother’s arms,

Gurgling and giggling,

As we watch, with awe,

The tiny firefly in your hand,

Lit up as bright as a bulb,

As we watch the plants swaying

In the gentle breeze,

Sipping hot cups of tea in our balcony,

As we sit next to each other

And laugh at the antics of young girls and boys

Feeling we are past that generation,

As we come back

To each other,

After every stupid fight,

As we look askance at each other,

Over a plate of pani puri,

And gesture that it’s eatable,

As we pore over

Gifts for a relative,

To find out something we both like,

As we look over handicrafts,

Home appliances and furniture

To decorate our little nest,

As we, without being told,

Join teams,

To tease the hell out of that little cousin,

As we decide on

The menu for the day,

Later, as I cook and you do the dishes,

As we smile at each other

When people bless us,

And build dreams for the future,

As we talk out

The horrid ups and downs of the day

At work and in life,

As we chill out on a Sunday afternoon

And discuss, for the umpteenth time,

The experiences we have enjoyed,

As we stand before God,

Together, hands clasped in a prayer,

Wishing for the same togetherness always,

As we drive back together

Home from work,

Tired, dreading the next hectic day,

As we recount the happenings of the day

Exhausted, lying in bed,

Suddenly finding that the other has drifted off,

As we shop at the supermarket,

And fill in the refrigerator till it bulges,

Preparing for your indefinite work tours,

I feel I have the whole of the world in the palm of my hand.

These lines were just so touching to me. Powerfully emotional. Just wanted to comment on this earlier 🙂

Sunday afternoons – the charm is something different! Hands clasped in prayer – somehow reminds me of an Airtel Ad – Express Yourself, where the caption in one frame says ‘Sometimes, we speak nothing’ or something to that effect..

    Nice one..
