Rain, intense,
Caressing the earth, cooling,
Gloom washed off,
And then,
A slow, steady downpour,
The earth smiling,
Blooming with the touch,
Then a light drizzle,
The rain, as if hesitant,
To leave the thirsty earth
Like love’s lingering gaze.
Beautifully written, Priya! Thank you – I enjoyed reading 🙂
How so wonderful!
Lovely poem and photo! 🙂
Nice one..liked several things about this – the picture, for some reason, is very soothing. The choice of words – caressing, lingering – somehow create the mood of softness ! And finally, the last line is beautiful – the hesitancy of lingering gaze of love, the hesitancy to shift and rain’s reluctance to abate. Twice blest indeed in many ways – blessed is the rain for it comes down in a stream of freedom, blessed is the earth to receive the touch of the rain. Portia draws an analogy between rain and mercy, it might not be inappropriate to draw a parallel like that between rain and poetry, blessed is the one who writes good verse for it gives a means of expression of deep emotions, blessed is the one who reads a good piece of poetry as this, for it may stimulate similar emotions and move him/her especially at solmen moments late into the night as these !

ahem! totally flattered. thanks for the kind words. 🙂
let the rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
let the rain plays a little sleep song on our roof
let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
let the rain sing you a lullaby
let the rain kiss you…
