The curious incident of the dog in the night-time

I first read about Mark Haddon’s The curious incident of the dog in the night-time here (her review is much better than mine! and ya, I SO wish this gal would start writing again!), and the review inspired me enough to get my own copy of the book long back. However, it was only recently that rave reviews of the book started catching my attention on various blogs, and I was tempted to begin reading it. I finished reading it over the weekend, and now I know why people are so impressed with the book.

It is a very different book from the ones I have read so far. For one, it is written from the innocent viewpoint of a kid. Secondly, Christopher Boone, the kid protagonist of the book is afflicted with Asperger’s Syndrome. He is determined, however, to solve the mystery of the murder of his neighbour’s dog – and ends up uncovering many other things in the process. He is brilliant in his own way, and the character kind of grew on me. At the end, I was left feeling a mixture of hope and sadness for Christopher. Christopher’s innocence got to me. I ended up questioning God what was his logic behind creating so much pain for people like Christopher.

All in all, I would say the book is definitely worth a read. A touching story with a different touch to it.
